PUSH came to shove between longtime foes Anton Nel and Osborne Machimana soon after Nel, the South African heavyweight champion, had made quick work of his latest challenger.

And if the verbal barbs during their mini-wrestling match are any indication, fans should brace themselves for a bloody third meeting between the two.

"Rolling Thunder" Nel and "Big Daddy" Machimana have fought twice before, Nel winning by knockout in 2002 and Machimana inside the distance in 2005.

For their latest foray, they came face-to-face inside the roped square ring at Presley’s in Boksburg minutes after Nel had sent Sithembile August to slumberland in less than 60 seconds last week.

August went down three times without throwing a single punch. Promoter Andre Thysse then invited Machimana into the ring.

Nel grabbed Machimana by his sweater and pulled him close before issuing the warning. "I have been waiting for two years to meet this Big Daddy."

A perplexed Machimana didn’t react physically, but retorted: "Wow … you fought against a palooka and handled the business so well. Come May … we will see who has the last laugh."

Thysse said he was negotiating with Carnival City for the fight, which would take place on May 26.

Thysse’s tournament last week saw former cruiserweight champion Deon Coetzee stop Fikile Nyalunga in the dying moments of the final, sixth round.

Unfancied veteran Welcome Ntshingila surprised Dowayne Combrink over six rounds in the junior-middleweight class. Patrick Mukala stopped Renson Hobyane in the fifth round in the super-middleweight division, while Jade Karam beat Christopher Munyai on points, also in the super-middleweight class.
