THE Communication Workers Union (CWU)‚ the whistle-blower in the South African Post Office’s missing billions case‚ says "heads must roll".
On Tuesday, Public Protector Thuli Madonsela will release the report of her probe, which took five years to complete due to internal disciplinary processes and a change of guard at the state postal agency.
In April 2011‚ the union handed Ms Madonsela a dossier detailing alleged corruption, including tender rigging, in the deal to secure the Post Office’s headquarters in Centurion‚ Pretoria‚ and a missing R2.1bn that was not accounted for.
The union said the systemic looting at the Post Office had resulted in employees being paid half their salaries in 2014-15.
In November about 500 union members marched to the public protector’s Johannesburg offices to highlight their displeasure with Ms Madonsela’s delay with her report.
The CWU’s Gauteng chairperson‚ Velaphi Zulu‚ said: "We hope (the report) will bring an end to this saga and that whoever is caught wanting in the report‚ must be dealt with. They must be identified and taken to task."
