INDEFATIGABLE veteran Mzonke "The Rose of Khayelitsha" Fana, who has been around for 22 years, returns to the ring on Friday.

He will defend his interim South African lightweight title against Vusumzi Bokolo in a tournament at the Orient Theatre featuring five championship bouts. Fana, a former IBF junior-lightweight champion, won the interim title after defeating Sipho Taliwe in October last year. Fana then demolished Xolani Mcotheli over nine rounds for the interim WBO Africa belt. He boasts 37 wins from 46 bouts.

In total, he has fought 391 rounds.

Bokolo, 32, has been around since 2005, and in 15 wins from 24 bouts, he has acquired no belts for his efforts. But the fight on Friday could be Bokolo’s last chance for silverware. Interim WBA Pan African junior featherweight holder Toto Helebe will headline the bill with his defence against Bongani Mahlangu, while South African mini-flyweight champion Daluxolo Mangcotywa will defend against Thembelani Okolo.

Sithembiso Faye and Lindile Tshemese will fight for a vacant national junior bantamweight strap with Thembelani Nxoshe and Mfundo Gwayana fighting for a vacant South African flyweight belt.

"This is a tournament certainly not to be missed," said veteran Bakubaku.

Meanwhile, Zolani "Last Born" Tete will attempt to win another IBF belt after being forced to vacate the junior-bantamweight belt a year ago due to the paltry purse he would have been paid for a mandatory defence against McJoe Arroyo in Puerto Rico.
