SA IS experiencing the worst drought in many years. The rain that falls now and then is very welcome, but if it is too heavy, it can lead to localised flooding and the loss of life. It is, therefore, crucial that we heed warnings of the weather services when driving in heavy rain.

To ensure we do not become victims of flooding, we must not build houses close to water sources such as rivers and dams and along flood lines, as this can be lethal.

Now that we are experiencing drought and it is dry even along riverbeds, we must not be tempted to build on river banks, as this could be costly when the weather patterns change and we receive more rain.

Water is life, but it can also be deadly.
