FORMER African National Congress (ANC) MP Vytjie Mentor on Wednesday rejected President Jacob Zuma’s claim that he "has no recollection" of her.
Ms Mentor allegedly said in her latest post on social media on Wednesday that she had participated in numerous meetings with Mr Zuma, including when he was deputy president.
On Tuesday Ms Mentor allegedly said in a post on Facebook she had been offered a Cabinet post by the politically connected Gupta family, in a meeting that allegedly took place while Mr Zuma was in the next room.
The Presidency said on Tuesday that Mr Zuma had no recollection of Ms Mentor. In another statement on Wednesday, the Presidency moved to refute media reports that Ms Mentor had accompanied the president on a 2010 state visit to China.
"The Presidency reiterates that the president has no recollection of Ms Mentor and is not aware of the alleged incidents in her career that she has reportedly written about on social media," the statement read.
In a series of posts on Wednesday Ms Mentor allegedly said she had participated in, among other things, bi-monthly meetings with Mr Zuma at his Tuynhuys offices and monthly meetings of the ANC political committee when she chaired the ANC parliamentary caucus.
Ms Mentor maintained she had been offered the position of minister of public enterprises, adding to a series of alleged instances of the Gupta family’s influence over political appointments. The ANC on Wednesday reiterated that it viewed such allegations in an "extremely serious light" and would discuss the issue at its forthcoming national executive committee meeting.
"Any persons or bodies purported to be "offering" Cabinet positions to members of the ANC or any other individuals do so in their own personal capacity with absolutely no authority to effect such offers," the statement read.
The Gupta family has reportedly denied the allegations and challenged Ms Mentor to file her allegations under oath through an affidavit.
