Samwu president, deputy president and treasurer dismissed

THE South African Municipal Workers Union (Samwu) has removed its president, Pule Molalenyane, first deputy president, John Dlamini and its national treasurer, Portia Lindi.
Samwu said the decision was taken during its central executive committee meeting on Monday.
The union said its executive convened after provinces had attempted to persuade national office bearers to convene.
Samwu said after the Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) special congress, they were shocked to learn that former national office bearers were attending meetings in "dark corners" and "conniving" in connection with a new federation.
"They went on disbanding structures of the union that are viewed to be behind Cosatu and its leadership with an aim of installing people who will be controlled to support splits for them to take Samwu to the new federation," it said.
Remedial measures
Samwu said the office bearers removed deputy general secretary Duma Lebakeng as well as the Eastern Cape provincial chairperson, Gauteng provincial chairperson, North Cape chairperson and KwaZulu-Natal provincial office bearers. This was done without following proper constitutional parameters.
"Our former national office bearers were running the union like private property which left us with no option but to look for remedial measures in terms of the constitution. That the CEC (central executive committee) was constitutional rather than what we heard on statements sent out by the disgruntled former president, Pule Molalenyane," it said.
Samwu said provincial chairpersons as well as Cosatu president Sdumo Dlamini made attempts to "arrest the behaviour" of Mr Molalenyane but did not succeed.
Samwu has elected an interim structure to co-ordinate a special congress within three months.
