REX Trueform Clothing Company increased headline earnings per ordinary share by 47.7% to 65.3c in the six months ended December 31 2015, from 44.2c in the year-earlier period, the company said on Friday.

The group produced "satisfactory" results for the six months, the company said.

Revenue increased 7.1% to R296.2m from R276.6m in the year-earlier period. The gross profit, which is generated from the retail segment, increased 7% to R157.4m, from R147.1m in the year-earlier period.

The company’s retail business, Queenspark, increased turnover during the period 6.5% to R286m from R268.7m in the year-earlier period.

Looking ahead, the company said the clothing retail market was expected to remain under pressure due to various factors, which included the sluggish economy.

The cost of goods imported was subject to the weakening of the rand and in the months ahead, the weaker rand would most likely put pressure on gross margins, the company said.

At 1.56pm the counter was unchanged at R11.50.
