ANTHEA Jeffery is a very good analyst and commentator on the consequences of bad legislation (SA might reap bitter harvest from state’s status in land bill, March 11). The Expropriation Bill, coupled with the euphemistically phrased Agricultural Land Framework Bill, is enough negative ammunition to make Nenegate look like a Sunday afternoon picnic.

Property rights are the fundamental building blocks of a successful economy and investors are highly sensitive to this economic reality. The global universe for investment flows is filled with hypercompetitive offerings. Do we want to be winners or losers?

With downgrades looming, the African National Congress seems to relish playing with fire.
