THE Presidency on Friday announced the appointment of Kuben Naidoo as a deputy governor of the Reserve Bank effective April 1.

Mr Naidoo will serve for a period of five years.

The position of deputy governor of the Reserve Bank became vacant when Lesetja Kganyago was appointed governor of the Reserve Bank last year.

Mr Naidoo is currently serving as an adviser to the Reserve Bank governor and is a member of the monetary policy committee.

He has also worked at the Treasury, where his responsibilities included public-sector personnel policy‚ intergovernmental fiscal relations‚ capital budgeting‚ budget reform and fiscal policy.

He spent two years at the UK Treasury where he worked on capital budgets and biannual spending reviews.

Mr Naidoo holds a bachelor of science degree‚ a postgraduate diploma in public management from Wits University and an MBA from the University of Birmingham.

"We wish the new deputy governor all the best in the execution of this critical responsibility in our country’s socioeconomic dispensation," President Jacob Zuma in a statement.

Mr Naidoo’s appointment is yet another positive sign of strong leadership within the monetary policy committee quarters, BNP Paribas Cadiz economist said.

“Mr Naidoo’s most recent position as advisor to the governor and strong track record within a policy making environment, therefore, lends support to our view for continuity in monetary policy going forward,” Mr Schultz said.
