JUDGES recommended for judicial appointment in October will begin work on January 1, said the presidency on Thursday.

In a statement the presidency announced President Jacob Zuma’s official appointment of judges to the high court and labour court.

The judicial appointments announced by the presidency were:

• Zamani Nhlangulela as Deputy Judge President of the Eastern Cape High Court, Mthatha;

• Nombulawo Mbhele and Celeste Reinders as judges of the Free State High Court;

• Former Labour Court judge Annali Christelle Basson to the Pretoria High Court;

• Nelisa Mali, Raylene Keightley, Lebogang Modiba, Thifhelimbu Mudau and Willem van der Linde as judges of the Johannesburg High Court;

• Mpho Mamosebo as judge of the Northern Cape High Court;

• Christina Prinsloo and Edwin Tlhotlhalemaje as judges of the Labour Court.

It was unclear on Thursday why Eastern Cape Judge David van Zyl — recommended by the Judicial Service Commission for appointment as Deputy Judge President of the Bhisho High Court — was not on the list from the presidency. Spokesman Bongani Majola could not be reached for comment.
