THE Congress of the People (COPE) has called for the immediate arrest of President Jacob Zuma and the Gupta family‚ saying there cannot be any more excuses for police to drag their feet in what the party asserted is a "clear corruption case".

"The latest revelation in the Sunday Times by Themba Maseko‚ former top aide‚ claiming in the first instance that Mr Zuma gave him instructions to assist the Guptas‚ and secondly claiming that the Guptas revealed to him that they (the Guptas) were having weekly meetings with Mr Zuma‚ constitute direct evidence of collusion between Mr Zuma and the Guptas‚" said COPE spokesman Dennis Bloem.

On Thursday last week COPE laid charges of corruption and treason against Mr Zuma and the Guptas at the Brooklyn Police Station in Pretoria.

Mr Bloem said on Sunday that COPE would submit a question in Parliament to request a record of Mr Zuma’s telephone calls for the last part of 2010.

"Alternatively‚ should he refuse‚ we shall submit an application in terms of the PAIA (Promotion of Access to Information) Act to get this information‚" Mr Bloem said.

"COPE believes that there cannot be any more excuses from the police to drag their feet in arresting Mr Zuma and the Guptas. This is a clear corruption case. COPE laid the charge at the Brooklyn Police Station‚ case no CAS 441/3/2016 and the police transferred the case to Sandton Police Station CAS 720/3/2016

"COPE urges the police to arrest Mr Zuma and the Guptas. They cannot spend one day longer as free men. We must and will get to the bottom of this corruption‚" Mr Bloem stated.
