Gordhan says he just wants ‘decency’ from SARS commissioner Tom Moyane

FINANCE Minister Pravin Gordhan says all he wants from the head of the South African Revenue Service (SARS)‚ Tom Moyane‚ is "decency".
Speaking to John Robbie on Talk Radio 702 from New York on Wednesday‚ Gordhan said: "All we want at the end of the day is decency from the equivalent of a director-general."
He said he would answer the Hawks’ questions to him about the SARS rogue unit "when I’ve finished my main job that I’m paid for". Most of the answers were public knowledge, he said.
His relationship with Mr Moyane was in the hands of President Jacob Zuma. "The president has said he is setting up a process. Let’s leave it at that."
Mr Gordhan said Moody’s had put SA’s credit rating on review and would visit the country to discuss this further.
“They will be visiting SA in March to meet various stakeholders and to downgrade us or not to downgrade us.”
He said Moody’s had informed him of its decision during his stop in London on an overseas roadshow to meet with investors and convince them the economy could be turned around.
Mr Gordhan said he had no intention of resigning as he had been given a job to do in December and would continue with his mission.
The opposition has called for the postponement of Wednesday’s parliamentary debate on the fiscal framework because Mr Gordhan will be absent.
This would be the first time a sitting finance minister has missed the debate on the budget.
