THE DAILY woe about the strength of the dollar against all other currencies is hugely overplayed in SA.

This is for two reasons: SA exports globally priced products and receives dollars in return; and it imports manufactured goods primarily from the European Union and pays the invoices in euros, which currency has weakened against the rand (from more than R15 in 2013 to just less than R13 as I write).

It’s not all doom and gloom.
