JOHANNESBURG-based celebrities have descended on the Val de Vie Estate in Paarl for the Veuve Clicquot Masters Polo event.

Event organisers Vivid Luxury confirmed that TV and radio personality Bonang Matheba and actress Bonnie Mbuli would attend. Africa Melane from 702 would be the master of ceremonies.

Vivid Luxury describes the event as a celebration that involves a game of polo along with loads of champagne, betting and fashion.

"The brand is more than just a champagne brand, it’s a lifestyle event which brings business networking and fashion on the same platform," said Vivid Luxury communications manager Masi Tonsi.

Vanessa Gounden, one of the designers to be featured at this year’s event, is due to showcase her fashion line called the Artivism collection.

"Artivism for Breast Cancer is a collaboration between myself, artist Amita Makan and Reach for Recovery, a vital breast cancer support group," said Gounden.

"It is these two symbols — the breast and the dress — that I combine to create a series of garments that tell of the anxiety, anguish and fear of waiting," she said.

Platforms such as Veuve Clicquot polo events provided the ideal platform for South African luxury fashion houses to showcase their products.

"Since ... I (last) showcased at this event in 2014, I’ve seen a significant change in how my brand is perceived in SA and the world," said Gounden.
