CoAL’s acquisition of Universal Coal cracks nod

THE Competition Commission has unconditionally approved Coal of Africa’s R1.3bn acquisition of Universal Coal plc.
"The approval is a positive step towards successfully concluding the merger between CoAL and Universal," said CoAL CEO David Brown.
Mr Brown said recently the combined entity was likely to create an enlarged South African coal producer with significant resources that could attract additional investors and provide access to capital and opportunities for growth.
