BUNGALOW used to be in Camps Bay; it has found a new home in the Clifton premises previously known as La Med. As many will know, the setting here is truly superb - only a field between the tables and the sea, while the mountains rise dramatically behind you.
The team behind the new Bungalow has spent well in the expansive renovation of the space: a gazebo patio offers seats with a great view, while the sprawling main restaurant space features a bar, lounge areas, a deck - with a pool - and an interior that's plushly ornate in a boudoir-meets-North African style, featuring communal "bed" nooks, where a group can recline while drinking, dining and conversing (though it may take some dexterity to look cool all the while, a prerequisite here).
There is plenty of competent service but with such a setting the food is perhaps incidental and unfortunately it shows in the plainness of the options (sandwiches, a couple of pastas, burgers, steaks, sushi) and the generally very ordinary quality at rather high prices (try grilled calamari with chips at R100).
But on a clear day this does not deter the socialites and tourists, making this one the latest "see-and-be-seen" options, probably best for drinks and snacks before you move on for your main meal.
